Some people spend weeks or even months training for a 5K, but I showed up to the gym one Tuesday after work and was told the workout of the day (WOD) was to run a 5K. Not being a runner, this had me a bit anxious, but I gave it my all. Exactly exactly 3 weeks later the WOD is another 5K. This time I was excited to try again, I had been faithfully going to the gym four days a week and was determined to beat my time by at least a few minutes. What I couldn’t believe is I beat my time by nearly 9 whole minutes!
Without a doubt, CrossFit has changed my attitude towards working out. I was never really on board with the gym thing, in fact, I joined an all-women gym to avoid what I imagined would be judgmental stares from your typical “gym rat.” When I did make it to the gym I stuck to a typical routine of the elliptical or bike and a few resistance exercise on the machines with the handy pictures showing you what to do. At the encouragement of my boyfriend and our friends, I apprehensively decided to give CrossFit a shot (very apprehensively I might add after seeing picture after picture of law enforcement and military personnel on the crossfit.com website). What I never imagined was the camaraderie and support I would receive from not only the trainers but the other members as well! Not once have I ever felt like I don’t belong or don’t measure up; people I just met cheer me on and encourage me to push and challenge myself (as well as the other members).
The trainers at CrossFit 714 are very adept at tailoring every workout to my personal fitness level and ensuring proper form to avoid injury. They also do a great job of photodocumenting the workout results so you can log your personal stats and track your progress.
It has been amazing learning what I am capable of; finding out that I can deadlift 185 pounds or back squat 175 pounds! And I am no longer disgusted by breaking out in a good sweat, for me it’s a sign of accomplishment and a workout well done!

I started at CrossFit 714 in mid April with the goal of getting healthy for myself and my family. I had been doing the standard “Globo Gym” routine but I never enjoyed going. Whenever I left the gym after a workout, I didn’t feel like I got enough out of it. I felt like I needed some more motivation and something I knew I could get REAL results from.
I was really out of shape after 4 years of being lazy when I stopped working out in 2004. I decided to start at CrossFit 714 when I tried a free class at another affiliate gym. Even though the WOD’s were far too advanced for me at that time, the trainer’s substituted workouts that I could handle until I felt I was able to finish them as prescribed. Aside from the 15lbs I have lost in 2 months, I am much stronger, I have more endurance, and I just feel better. These workouts are planned to help you build “usable” strength as well as the mental toughness it takes to get in shape the right way. You don’t need to have any previous experience to workout at CrossFit 714. You just need the balls to show up and the results will follow. Thanks to the trainers and members at CrossFit 714 for motivating me during every WOD…something I never got at the “Globo Gyms”.

The physical demands of a police officer are phenomenal. We do battle on our streets day in and day out protecting the innocent and enforcing laws.
Elite fitness is imperative in order to effectively perform your duties day in and day out as a police officer. CrossFit will ensure you are physically fit to meet the physical demands of the job, the unknown. CrossFit will increase your overall fitness; it will build your strength and endurance and give you confidence in your physical abilities. CrossFit is the solution for overall fitness and well being not just for police officers but also for anyone who chooses to better their overall fitness.
CrossFit isn’t a workout regiment; it is a way of life, an underground community. Once you become a part of it, you will never look back and you will never be in it alone.
